Happy full moon in Taurus November 15 at 21.28 UTC (see www.timeanddate.com for moon rise in your location). This moon is called by the Algonquin nation and others, Full Beaver Moon or Full Frost Moon, as beavers prepare for winter and by the Celts, Mourning Moon, as the old year moves towards its darkest times. This late year moon is in compensation a supermoon, the last of the year that appears larger and brighter than the average full moon because it moves closer to the earth.

The Taurean full moon is a slower full moon than many, when it may seem hard to make the final push to let go of the past, mourn for what cannot be and trust in the Long Nights Moon on December 14, close to the Midwinter solstice in the Northern hemisphere and the return of light.

But first step into the here and now and rejoice in the Beaver Moon as the northern nights become longer, a time of preparation and storing what is needed for the winter ahead in terms of personal resources as well as practical.

Avoid getting swept up in frenetic Thanksgiving and pre-Christmas preparations that begin commercially in October. Rather allow this slower full moon to guide you to tuning into your natural inner ebbs and flows, recognising the importance of people coming together and not fretting over creating the perfect festive table; take time to listen to the reminiscences of older folk instead of impatiently half hearing and walking straight into the problems their wisdom could have spared.

If we can tune into the different full moon energies through the year, our lives become more harmonious in both northern and in the southern hemisphere; right now flow with this measured moon, accept the inevitability of what cannot be changed and do not fight against cosmic powers but wait for them to bring the Midwinter upswing in its own time.

  • When you see this moon in the sky, light a slow burning pink candle in honour of Asmodel, angel of the Taurean moon, put away your strident smart phone, demanding tablet, or computer that orders our lives with often irrelevant mails, unfunny trivia and must buys.
  • Do nothing while the candle burns or talk softly of memories and future dreams as darkness falls.
  • Before sleep make a wish on Mother Moon for the restoration of inner radiance, peace and the easing of the relentless hunger for achievement, of running towards the next task or conversation before the present one is even half-through.
  • During the three days around this full moon, observe the beauty of an early or late flower pushing through the paving stones, pause to accept the wondrous gift of a bird singing in a concrete town square and smile at those you encounter, assisting anyone struggling instead of impatiently pushing past because you are late.

The message of this moon is above all to value your own worth. Smile from your heart and walk strong in your own unique light as the Taurean moon sheds her blessings.
